Travel Book: Rome - by Robert Hughes

When I visited Rome I was fascinated by the Coliseum.  It was at once impressive and unbelievable.  The architecture amazed me and it was my favorite of the places I visited.  It also troubled me that people and animals were once killed for sport in that majestic space.  I plan to read more on the complexities of Roman culture and this book from the Smithsonian is where I’ll begin.  Also looks like a great gift for those well-traveled or yearning to travel types on your Christmas gift list.
