Smithsonian Folklife Festival 2012

How’s your summer coming along? I’ve been working, traveling and enjoying mine.

Tomorrow the Smithsonian Folklife Festival kicks off another year of fun and education.  It is held in Washington, DC on the National Mall June 27-July 1 and July 4 through July 8.  Admission is free and the activities numerous.  Each year those smarty-pants folks who run the Smithsonian come up with three themes and present us with new ways to see the world.  This year:

Campus and Community – This year marks the 150th anniversary of the founding of land grant universities and the USDA

Cititfied – Arts and Creativity east of the Anacostia River looks at creativity, community and identity.

Creativity and Crisis – Celebrating 25th anniversary of the AIDS memorial quilt.

Get out and see what the festival is all about. Happenings include live concerts, interactive presentations and delicious food.

Summer Reading: Tina Fey’s ‘Bossypants’

This has been a busy few weeks and I need to get caught up on my blogging!!  Hope everyone is starting the summer right.  Mine began with being a bridesmaid in a beautiful and fun wedding.  Now this week I’m packing up my office as we move to a temporary space during renovations.  I’m looking forward to more time at the beach and pool, grilling outdoors and some down time to read.  Want to recommend Tina Fey’s “Bossypants” if you want to get a few laughs.  I’m in the middle and enjoying her clever storytelling.  I didn’t realize she worked on Saturday Night for 9 years.  She talks about her family, professional life and life in general. Her TV show ‘Thirty Rock” is coming to a close after this season.  I’m learning about her solid work ethic from this book and the importance of being assertive, but adaptable to get what you need professionally.  Look forward to her next creative project and delighted that she wrote this book.
